BB&Y’s signature ArtSea Festival is an annual event that brings {urban youth} + {marine biologists and passionate environmentalists} + {artists and creatives and media geeks} together on a beach where they can explore ~ play ~ learn ~ create art and videos ~ share stories and a passion for the ocean. For many of the young people who attend ArtSea, this event becomes their first or primary hands-on day to enjoy / celebrate/ learn about our big blue oceans. ArtSea improves the lives of all children and their families in many communities by offering a unique, family-friendly, environmental learning experience and celebration of the arts & the ocean.

Mentoring at ArtSea young people engage with professionals and young adults from many disciplines – and have the opportunity to work side by side with them creating art and science projects, learning new water sports and participating in athletic activities.

Arts Education thanks to the many local artists who participate in ArtSea, every participant has the opportunity to create their own works of art, using multimedia and even items from the sea that they gather themselves on the beach.

Environmental Awareness one of the most unique ‘other issues’ that students in South Florida face is the need to protect our marine environment and co-exist with the ocean shoreline. The ArtSea Festival helps every participant to better understand our intimate relationship with the oceans and the importance of caring for our unique environment.

Positive Parenting families who participate together at ArtSea share environmental learning and stewardship.

Safety & Injury Prevention water safety training and supervised swimming and water sports help children build their confidence on the beach. Participants report anecdotally that ArtSea has created permanent changes in their views, personal goals, and passion. One participant says he learned that “every little action that we make has either a big reaction or a little one, so we should really conserve our resources and pay attention to what we do…. Tackling little things we do can help make this future better.”

This initiative accomplishes many goals by engaging young people who attend to broaden their knowledge and awareness of marine science, art, music, water sports and the importance of our marine environment to the earth’s ecology.
