Our Plastic Free Cities Junior Sustainability Consultants hosted an inspiring virtual Plastic-Free Blitz Workshop in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ District Student Government Association. This student-led workshop was a unique opportunity for students to dive into the Plastic Free Cities curriculum and learn how to take action against single-use plastics in their own communities.

Alongside our intern Alejandro Ganaza, six dedicated student leaders presented this crash course to offer attendees an overview of plastic pollution and practical solutions that they can apply in their schools, homes, and neighborhoods. The workshop wrapped up with an engaging activity designed for students to implement in their own classrooms and cafeterias, empowering them to reduce waste and make a positive impact on the environment.

Continuing the Mission: Expanding Plastic-Free Initiatives Across the District

Our mentors are also taking their passion to the next level, working within their schools in Hialeah, Doral, and the City of Miami to lead Plastic Free Cities Clubs and initiatives. Through ongoing canvassing of local businesses and collaborating with the District Student Government Association, they’re creating even more opportunities to spread the Plastic Free Cities mission across Miami-Dade County.

These young leaders are thrilled to continue this vital work and showcase the inspiring goals of youth in ocean conservation. Keep an eye out for more updates as they carry forward the mission to reduce single-use plastics and protect our planet!
